COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will offer basic skills in strengthen and conditioning. The weight training program is designed to increase strength, speed, endurance, flexibility, agility and power, to condition the total body. Proper techniques and safety will be emphasized to prevent injuries.
Policies
Attendance:
A medical excuse or a valid excuse written by a parent/guardian must be received by the school on the day the student returns to school. ALL ABSENCES must be verified by a medical or parent note. Please refer to student handbook for additional policy information about absences.
Tardy:
Students are expected to report to classes on time. Students who are tardy to school or class are subject to the Pupil Discipline Code.
You are considered tardy if you are not in your seat when the tardy bell rings.
All Johnsonville High School and Florence District 5 Schools rules, regulations and policies stated in the student handbook and code of conduct apply.
General Rules:
Make-up Work It is the student’s responsibility to coordinate arrangements with the teacher(s) and complete make up work and tests within 3 school days upon the student’s return to school.
When Are Parents Notified?
*1st offense: Warning
*2nd offense: Teacher/Student Conference &
Contact Parent
*3rd offense: Office Referral/Write Up
**Any major offense will result in an
automatic office referral**

Percentages & Grading Scale
Health = 50% Physical Education = 50% Final Exam = 25%
Quizzes = 20% Preparation = 40%
Tests = 25% (Dressing Out, Athletic Shoes)
Notebooks(CW/HW) = 40% Participation = 60%
Projects = 15% (Warm Up,, Daily Activities, Fitness Testing)
Weight Room Rules:
1. No Gum, food, drinks (bottle water o.k.)
2. No socializing, Talk should be limited not to affect the lifter
3. Do not sit on the weight machines
4. Always dress in the proper workout clothes
5. Game or competition does not excuse you from the workout
6. Never lift alone or without the coaches’ supervision
7. Use only equipment and exercises that the coach has permitted and/or demonstrated
8. Do not leave equipment on the floor
9. Place all the weights on the racks and trees
10. Wear a full shirt ( no tank tops)
11. Report all injuries or illness to the coach
12. No horseplay in the weight room
13. Report all broken or damaged equipment to the coach
14. Wear shoes at all time. Shoes must be tied securely for safety
15. Load bars evenly using the proper plates
Disrespect
**Is showing dishonor to teacher and other students. Ex’s:
1. Talking while teacher is talking
2. Intentional lack of effort that interferes with class
3. A gesture that shows dishonor to teacher and other students such as rolling eyes, finger movements, etc.
4. Negative attitude that interfere with class
5. Talking back to the teacher in a negative tone of voice
Materials
1. T-Shirt, Shorts, Clean Socks, Comfortable Athletic Shoes, Deodorant
2. Optional: Towel (name on it), Wash Cloth, Jogging Pants (white, black,gray) or other personal items as needed
*** A locker, lock, and partner will be assigned to you. It is your respnonsibility to keep your items locked in your locker. If the lock is not returned by the end of the semester/year, you will be charged $5.00. Do not attach stickers to your lockers.***
***It is your responsibility to keep up and wash your clothes.***

- Avoid disruptive behavior
- Listen when the teacher is talking
- Be Respectful!!!!
- Every student must dress out in gym shorts or sweat pants, tee shirts, & tennis shoes
- No student is to leave the gym, weight room, track etc.., without the permission from the teacher
- You need a doctor’s note to be excused from physical activity and an alternative assignment
- If do not dress out and participate you will be given a Zero for the day. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
